Spy x Family anime is adapted from the manga of the same name, written and Illustrated by Endou Tatsuya. The story follows an undercover spy named Twilight. He builds a fake family to help him complete a top-secret mission. #1 The manga

Spy x Family manga has broken through records with its manga sales. In total, there have been more than 15 million copies sold at the moment. With only around sixty chapters, it has gained this much sales volume. Most of these sales were before the announcement of the anime.

#2 Spy x Family, the anime

The anime is rumored to consist of 25 episodes, which will be split into 2 seasons. Season 1 consists of 12 episodes, airing from 9 April to 25 June 2022. Whereas the other 13 episodes are expected to air at the end of 2022. Spy x Family is produced by Shueisha Productions and has the cooperation of Wit Studios and CloverWorks.

#3 The Title was inspired by “Hunter x Hunter”

The idea was to make an interesting title that can grab the audience’s attention. Tatsuya did major change on the title after the head editorial department was sure that it will be serialized and will become a huge hit.

#4 Anya’s Character Inspiration

Anya’s character design is actually adapted from Ashe, a character created by Tatsuya Endou in “Rengoku no Ashe'', his previous one-shot story. She was meant to be made older and taller, but thankfully we have Anya as she is now.

The reason being its a Germany story setting. This is the main reason why it is very popular in Europe, mostly in Germany and France. A lot of memes from the anime have been circulating globally on the internet.

#6 Yor’s real name

Yor is Twilight’s wife whose real identity is an assassin under the codename "Thorn Princess". Her maiden name was Briar before she took up Twilight’s Forger once they were “married”. But the official fan book confirms that Yor is short for Yolanda.

#7 Based on Real Life Locations

The entrance of the Eden academy is based on Berlin's Humboldt University. Many of its buildings are inspired by either Oxford or Cambridge. Its bridge is based on Oxford's Hertford Bridge, which is also known as the Bridge of Sighs. The dining hall resembles the dining hall in Oxford's Christ Church. The two most important countries in Spy x Family are Ostania and Westalis. These two nations are clearly based on East and West Germany during the Cold War.

#8 Loid Forger name’s reason

Twilight’s real name is Loid Forger. When he was a kid, he lost both his parents in a war, and hated his past. Then he became a spy under the codename 'Tasogare/Twilight'. The last name Forger is a reference to the concept of forgery, a forged family with Anya and Yor.

Loid’s elegant and luxurious Le Corbusier LC2, Anya’s adorable marshmallow sofa that represents Anya’s naive and precocious personality, or Yor’s luxurious white Eames La Chaise that represents Yor’s innocence and also her job as an assassin.

Anya had been adopted three times before Twilight/Loid, but she was sent back to the orphanage due to her reading her adoptive parents’ minds. Anya loses her telepathic abilities every new moon. This phenomenon is referred to as “Eclipsing” by the scientists at the facility where she was a test subject.
